Install Upgrades FAQs

Q: I am attempting to upgrade my program to the new version but it is defaulting
     to the selection New Install?

A:  This problem occurs if one of the variables: path=, lists=, or data= (which are located in
the wincare.ini), point to a location that is currently unavailable. The program will then default
      to the new install selection.
Verify that the machine with the currently logged in user can access all three
      paths successfully.
Follow the steps below to check the wincare.ini:

  1. Click the Windows Start button.
  2. Click Run.
  3. Type the text, wincare.ini and click OK.
  4. Verify the paths and if incorrect, make the appropriate changes.
  5. Verify the paths and if correct, begin the install/upgrade again and it should display the correct option.

Q: Do I have to install or upgrade the WinCare program on each client PC if networked?

A:  Yes, if the program is local and only the database is being ran from the server.
If both the program path and the data are being ran from the server then the install/upgrade
needs to be done only on the server.

Q:  What Windows rights are required for WinCare users when using XP?

A:   The user needs Modify, Read, and Write rights to the WinCare.ini located in C:\Windows.

Read & Execute rights to C:\Windows\System32.

Modify, Read, and Write rights to the WinCare folder, normally C:\WinCare.

Initially the user needs full rights to the root of C:, once the user goes into the MDS 2 module the file C:\RAPLOCKS.TXT
will be created. After this the users only needs: Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, and Read rights to the root of C:.

For the Spell Checker the user needs Modify, Read, and Write rights to these two files "Correct.tlx" and "UserDic.tlx",
       located in C:\Windows\System32.
